Application of High-Precision X-ray Fluorescence Elemental Analyzer for Copper (Cu) Detection in Copper Sulfate Liquids within the Copper Industry

This application note presents a solution for the quantitative analysis of copper in copper sulfate using a high-precision X-ray fluorescence elemental analyzer.

Application Overview

The high‑precision X‑ray fluorescence elemental analyzer is well‑suited for a range of industries, including geology and mining, steel metallurgy, hydrometallurgy, environmental monitoring, and food safety. It enables rapid and accurate detection of process liquids, and delivers reliable analytical performance for key elements such as copper and zinc.

Technical Principles

The High-Precision X-ray Fluorescence Elemental Analyzer (HPXRF) utilizes Monochromatic Focusing Doubly Curved Crystal (DCC) optics, which monochromatize polychromatic X-rays from the source and effectively focus them onto the sample. This greatly enhances the instrument's signal-to-noise ratio. Upon monochromatization, elements in the sample emit characteristic X-ray fluorescence signals. These signals are collected and processed by a high-resolution Silicon Drift Detector (SDD), and the software's Fundamental Parameter (FP) algorithm calculates the elemental content in the sample.

Test Method

Fill a clean sample cup 2/3 full with the liquid sample (rinsing the sample cup with the liquid sample is recommended to reduce contamination). Cover it with a testing film and press firmly flat using a corresponding-sized film ring.

Proceed with measurement (do not test leaking samples). Place the cup film-side down onto the testing port. Close the sample chamber door and select the corresponding curve to start the test.
